Trunk (table) or treat

So, last night we had a Halloween party at church. It was supposed to be a Trunk or treat, but because of the third snow storm in 9 days we had it inside. Anneke was scared of the bed costume and the (for lack of a better word) Pimp. Balloons popping were not a highlight. She came dressed as Uniqua and no one knew who she was. Marcus and at least 2 other boys in his class were Super Man (there are only a total of 6 kids in his class). However, we made Marcus's costume. Andy cut out symbols from felt, we found blue long johns, I made a cape, we tucked some red boxer shorts, and I sacrificed my only pair of fuzzy socks (red) so he could wear them over his boots. He looked pretty good. I may download the picture later. Andy won best adult costume for his pirate. We also won best trunk/table. We had the fog machine under it and Andy's wolf man skull, plus other items. It was only an hour event and that was perfect.
So, we are changing our theme at work to dragons for next month. One of our children started the room on a dragon kick. She says she has a pet dragon named "Emmalis" that is rainbow colored. We have one dragon book that has been passed around the room quite a bit. Any suggestions of picture books? I only have "The Paper Bag Princess" with a dragon in it. I did see one with a vegetarian dragon that Scott might appreciate. Something like, "Herb, the Vegetarian Dragon".
I took work off today to go to the temple and then volunteer in Marcus's classroom. Andy is coming with me. He still has about half of "Adam Bede" to read, but he is coming nonetheless. We will probably have lunch at Olive Garden since it is right across from the temple.
Life is good and full of candy right now. We have a costume parade, costume ball and trick or treating within the next few days. Have fun everyone and stay safe on Halloween.

Let it Snow

It snowed for about 8 hours yesterday and we got quite a bit of snow for Scott's birthday. That is not fair, I had better get some for my birthday, too. I have been scrambling to get winter coats, find hats and get gloves. Marcus had only one glove, so we went to buy some. He wanted glow in the dark skeleton hands, but we thought ski gloves would be better. He was sad,(He loves anything that glows in the dark at the moment.) but chose red ones. Now he has a green snow boarding coat, red ski gloves and a black knit hat with the bat symbol on it. Anneke of course has a princess coat that is bright pink.
I spent Saturday training to be on the policy council for Marcus's school. I found out yesterday that I have been elected to be on the Resident Council for the CU apartments. A few Sundays ago we gave talks and because of things I said I am helping put together the Christmas party/program for our ward. It happens the day after my birthday. So, outside of work I am super busy. I am excited to be involved but hate the extra time away from my children.
We finally ordered a new bunk bed for our children. Andy doesn't think that he can make it for a lot less than we bought it. Our concern is getting the mattresses that we currently have to fit. We have extra long twin mattresses that have proven to be difficult with the current bunk beds. Marcus was set on getting the bed with the slide. However, it had only bed on top and a built in desk and dresser underneath.
Andy is obsessed with motorcycles and driving me crazy in the process. He talks about them everyday and is even a member of a chat room devoted to motorcycles addicts. Well, I doubt that is what they could call themselves...I am getting annoyed and wish that he would focus his energies on getting a better job so we are not paying so much for child care. Okay, enough venting. I may go walking now, but am unsure what will happen because of the snow.

Harry Potter

Okay, so I finished reading all the Harry Potter's again. It took about a month, but it was fun and made me way excited for the next one. If you have not read the books and are planning on it, don't read any further. If you have not read the books and are not planning on it, this will probably bore you. And, upon rereading the series I wonder about some of Andy's theories. Is Snape really bad or was he ordered to kill Dumbledore? Will Harry and Ginny hook up again? Lots of questions. Rowling has two working titles for the next book and says that there are a lot of plot twists that no one could predict. I am a bit sad about the 7th book coming out because I won't have anything to look forward to in the Media world.
In movies, I heard that "School for Scoundrels" was disappointing. Andy and I already have a date set to see "The Prestige" October 20th. Andy of course read and loved the book, so watching Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale is no problem for me. Melissa, we did buy the Little Mermaid and also X-Men 3, and Anneke of course loves the former.
Seen any good movies or read any good books? I would like some suggestions.

The Velveteen Rabbit

Yesterday I went with my class to the Kids Kabaret. The production was "The Velveteen Rabbit" and the children loved. It of course made me a bit homesick. The concept is a good one though. At the Boulder dinner theater here they do productions especially for young children twice a year for a month run just matinees. I had a bunch of favorite parts of the trip, but the best was on the bus on the way to the theater. (It was public transportation.) One of the little boys leaned over to a man and said, "Excuse me sir, we are going on a field trip!"
Anneke does not want to potty train. I must admit I pretty much stopped it. I want to be the one to decide when my child is ready, not her teachers. Yes, in some ways I am silly and stubborn. Still, when she can't stay dry for even an hour in underwear she is not ready.
Final Halloween costume decisions are in. Marcus is going to be Super Man and Anneke is going to be Uniqua from Backyardigans. Andy and I are thinking of recycling old costumes because no one here has seen them anyway.
I am procrastinating the sweeping, mopping and folding of laundry that waits me. But, I think I have said all the exciting things in my life.
